What the NZ car learner licence tests cover

  1. Start with the car-specific test

    Exam Car Theory covers what applies to car learners in particular: learner licence conditions, supervisor rules, L-plates, tyre tread, towing limits and what to do in a breakdown. Take it first, then use the topic tests to fill any gaps.

  2. Then work through the road rules

    Exam Core covers the essential rules. The topic tests go deeper on road signs, driver behaviour, intersections, parking, road position and emergencies. You can take them in any order and retake them as often as you like.

  3. Finish with a full mock exam

    The car mock exam has 35 questions, 25 general and 10 specific to car licences, with answers shown at the end and a pass mark of 32 out of 35.
